Dr. Bo Liu, Associate Professor

Biography: Dr. Bo Liu is an Associate Professor of Teaching & Learning Technologies program in Department of Information Technology in Education at South China Normal University (SCNU) and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Application Technology from South China University of Technology (SCUT). He is also serving as a guest editor for Journal of Computational Information Systems, a visiting scholar in both OSU and SUN at New York. He has shared Oral Report or Keynote Speech in many International Conferences such as ICMLC2005, ICBL2017, IFERD2019, ICBDIE2021, CSTE 2024. He served as chair for International Conference on Technology in Education (ICTE2019) and as a technical committee member and reviewer in The 2022 5th International Conference on Big Data and Education(ICBDE 2022). His current researching field including how to design, develop and integrate innovative technology capable of promoting students’ motivation and engagement in digital learning to achieve a positive impact on student success. By integrating advanced computing technologies, he believes digital learning can be more pertinent and manageable in authentic teaching and learning practice. The advanced computing technologies can be used as not only communication or productive tools, but also cognitive tools to promote motivation for learning, to facilitate hands-on, and to provide scaffoldings for complex cognitive activities. He also believes that the informational environments also have the capacity to provide analytical insights and afford new analytical methodologies to better inform educational research and instructional design. Dr. Bo Liu is involved in several projects in collaboration with experts from various fields, such as, computer science and engineering, social science, psychology and cognitive science.

Topic: Predictors of Danmaku Video Adoption by Pre-Service Educators

Abstract: In the post COVID-19 pandemic era, online education has become prevalent, presenting both opportunities and challenges. One of the challenges is the lower online learning participation of the most of students. To address this issue, Danmaku videos offer a new context-based, real-time interactive method for online education that may effectively increase students' engagement. This study explores factors influencing pre-service teachers' acceptance of danmaku video apps in online education, using the UTAUT model. Our researching This study aims to inspire the introduction of danmaku videos into education from the perspective of teachers' viewpoint. Based on a literature analysis, the research focuses on beginners’ sustainability of learning danmaku videos in online education. Social influence and habits emerged as key predictors, with gender, grade level, and experience moderating. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for enhancing the integration of danmaku videos in educational settings. The study analyzed beginners’ sustainability of danmaku videos in education and explored the impact of gender, grade, and experience on their perception. The results indicate that social influence and habit strongly predict beginners’ sustainability of danmaku videos in online education.
